Best three small towns in the NW Region for Coffee Lovers
|

The Northwestern United States is well known for its coffee obsession. It is part of the west coast culture. For coffee lovers, big cities almost always have at least a few good coffee shops, but in small towns (under 10,000 in population) it is much more hit or miss. When evaluating a town’s coffee superstardom, we look not just at the total number of coffee shops, but also how many indie coffee shops are in town. Some of the best coffee comes not from the large chains, but from the ma and pa coffee shops. Here are the top three.
- Wasilla, Alaska – Population 7841. With 11 indie coffee shops, and 15 coffee shops in total, this small town near Anchorage has the highest number of total coffee shops and indie coffee shops of any small town in the Northwest. With coffee shops like Mocha Moose and The Awakening, there is no better small town in the Northwestern US than Wasilla to find a great cup of coffee from a variety of shops.
- Astoria, Oregon – Population 9626. Our top spot is Astoria, Oregon, located on the Oregon Coast at the mouth of the Columbia River. Astoria has 11 indie coffee shops and two additional chain coffee shops. With coffee shops like The Rusty Cup, Kick Ass Koffee, and Journey’s End Expresso, there is no better small town in the Pacific Northwest to find a great cup of coffee from a variety of shops.
- Burlington, WA – Population 8485. In second place is Burlington, WA. Situated 40 miles north of the Seattle metropolitan area and 50 miles south of the Canadian border, Burlington is a gateway for those seeking to spend time in the great outdoors. Burlington has 9 indie coffee shops and 11 in total. Coffee shops with names like Big Foot Java, Anglers Coffee and Woods Coffee re-enforce the woodsy narrative.
