Best Mid-Sized Cities in the Southwest for Art Galleries

Regardless of whether you are traveling or relocating, for those who are always on the lookout for your next great piece of art, having a selection of art galleries is a must. Large cities are typically a safe bet for finding a wide variety of galleries, but for any city smaller than a major metropolitan, it can be much more hit or miss.
If you are thinking of traveling or relocating, it can be a very time-consuming task to figure out which cities have the art scene you are looking for. To help, we have researched every city in the Southwest with at least 5000 people to figure out how many art galleries are in each. We are going to look at mid-sized cities with a population between 10,000 and 74,999 in the Southwest. This includes the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. Here are 3 cities that can help you scratch your art itch.
Prescott, AZ – Population 39,843. What is truly amazing about Prescott is how many art galleries are located in such a small, remote city. 100 miles to the north of Phoenix, there is not much near Prescot, not that you need anything near. Prescot has a lot of everything, including 22 art galleries, the exact same number as Phoenix, which has a population 30 times bigger.
Flagstaff, AZ – Population 65,870. In 2nd place with 17 galleries is Flagstaff, AZ. Surrounded by deserts, ponderosa pine forests, and some of the tallest mountains in Arizona, not only is Flagstaff a great place to buy art, it is near a lot of natural beauty that is the inspiration for art.
Lake Havasu, AZ – Population 52,527. Our third city is Lake Havasu, AZ. Located on the California border almost directly east of Los Angeles, Lake Havasu has 6 art galleries. Many of the galleries one of a kind hand-made Native American art.
